Dear Parents

The school photographs are now completed and you will soon receive a link to be able to view and order the photographs of your child. School photographs make for great family Christmas presents and are a permanent reminder of your child’s school days as they grow older.

Early next week we will be launching our Christmas card design competition, the winning entries from which will be sent electronically to parents and supporters of the school as well as local businesses and dignitaries. The winning designs will also grace the pages of our end of term RoundUp magazine. The submission date for the Pearson ‘Twist on a Tale’ writing competition is fast approaching. Whilst the closing date is next Friday, 26th November, there is a substantial administrative process involved meaning that we need to final entries to be submitted by Wednesday 24th November. All stories need to be saved as a Word or PDF document with the name of the writer/writers, their Key Stage, region and school/setting name as the file name. E.g. Sarah Brown_KS3_South West_TLC Private School.

We will soon finalise the details for our Christmas performances, once confirmation of the venue has been received. The children are already practising hard and I will need to dig out my recipe for festive mulled wine for the events held at school. Please can I remind those who want to participate in the upper primary and secondary Christmas Concert to let Mrs Outram or Miss Hurrell know that you wish to participate.

It’s only four weeks now until we break for the Christmas holidays and plenty to do in that time. We are a week away from the start of the end of term assessments and mock exams for our older students. We are all hoping that exams go ahead next year but across Europe, the signs are looking ominous. We have regular contact with the examining boards and will advise students of any changes as we receive news of them. Exam year students should be busy revising now and the school and your child will appreciate your support in helping them to revise effectively.

Primary have a number of school trips planned before the end of term with the current relaxation in Covid regulations. Year 5 are off to the Zoo soon whilst Year 2 will visit The Place in Paphos to experience traditional Cypriot crafts. School trips have not been possible over the last eighteen months and it will be nice for the children to be able to learn outside of school again.

I hope you all have a good weekend and I’ll see you for the start of another busy week on Monday.

Kind regards,

David Lewis

Principal

Certificate Award Assembly

Three months after receiving their exam results from Edexcel, our students were presented with their exam certificates at an awards assembly, led by Tracey Hewitt, our Head of Secondary, The certificates will prove valuable in the years ahead when our students seek university places or jobs. The grades awarded attest to the dedication to their studies shown by the students during the pandemic period and the resilience they showed in challenging times.

Catherine Lewis, our Head of Teaching and Learning, challenged the current Year 10 and Year 11 students to replicate the success of last year’s students and make us proud of them too.

After School Clubs

We are pleased to introduce a new Running Club with Ms Wendy on Mondays at TLC Primary School.

The school has subscribed to the children’s news magazine The Week Junior and a digital subscription is now available to all TLC children.

The Week magazine is a UK based publication that summarises the week’s news and events from around the world and The Week Junior makes this information accessible for children aged 7 to 14.
To access the free digital version, download the The Week Junior app from Apple’s App Store or Android Google Play. Open the app and click on the settings icon (Three vertical dots) in the top right corner. Then click on Account then Existing Subscriptions and enter the code 001212024901.

You will be taken to the current issue page and can also view past issues. Each week, the new issue is automatically distributed late on a Friday or early Saturday morning and can be downloaded to your device. The magazine also contains puzzles and a weekly news quiz that will help you know how thoroughly your child has read the magazine.

We hope that you will encourage your child to read the magazine each week. All the children who took part in the trial of the magazine, loved it and now read it avidly each week. The information will help your child become more aware of what is happening in the world and how it affects them.
