Issue 81

Dear Parents

We have only one week left of the term now and, much to the students’ relief, assessments are over.

Next Friday, we are going to celebrate the Christmas period with class parties, following Covid regulations as always and wish each other a Happy Christmas before we leave for the holidays.

Talking of Covid regulations, we have passed another week without any Covid cases in school – we must be the healthiest and safest school on the island! Despite the restrictions we have to endure, we are doing well compared to other countries. I read recently about a similar size school in the UK that has totaled nearly 300 cases, many of them repeat infections, whole classes sent home and others combined because of teachers with Covid. I am so pleased we haven’t faced that kind of disruption and are safe and well – with strict adherence to the rules, long may this continue!

Tonight we host our online Christmas Concert from 5pm which you can access via your child’s Teams account. We’re looking forward to some festive music and dance to start our weekend.

TLC Private School prides itself on its links with the local community and we are pleased to announce that the very popular New Testament Community Church will be moving their Sunday morning services to the Parkland site of TLC. NTCC is a small evangelical church made up mainly of ex-patriates who come from all walks of life and different church backgrounds, so our meetings are quite informal, lasting for about an hour. NTCC is a very friendly and welcoming church and members enjoy meeting together for smaller social events. Like TLC, NTCC supports various charitable organisations around the world, including supporting two children in their schooling in Malawi, and operating a non-profit organisation in the Holy land which offers help to needy and poor people. If you would like to join them their weekly morning services at Parkland will start from Sunday 12th December at 10:30am and on the 19th, there will be a Christmas Carol service at the same time. You can find out more about NTTC via their website – www.ntccpaphos.com or you can contact the administrator Kelly MacIntyre by email: newntcc@gmail.com

We have one week to go for our entries to be sent off to the New Heritage Writing Competition. This is for secondary age children and, if you’re interested in entering, please talk to Miss Ally, our Head of English.

So I’ll finish by wishing you a great last weekend before the holidays and I’ll see you next week.

Kind regards

David Lewis

Principal

The school has subscribed to the children’s news magazine The Week Junior and a digital subscription is now available to all TLC children.

The Week magazine is a UK based publication that summarises the week’s news and events from around the world and The Week Junior makes this information accessible for children aged 7 to 14.
To access the free digital version, download the The Week Junior app from Apple’s App Store or Android Google Play. Open the app and click on the settings icon (Three vertical dots) in the top right corner. Then click on Account then Existing Subscriptions and enter the code 001212024901.

You will be taken to the current issue page and can also view past issues. Each week, the new issue is automatically distributed late on a Friday or early Saturday morning and can be downloaded to your device. The magazine also contains puzzles and a weekly news quiz that will help you know how thoroughly your child has read the magazine.

We hope that you will encourage your child to read the magazine each week. All the children who took part in the trial of the magazine, loved it and now read it avidly each week. The information will help your child become more aware of what is happening in the world and how it affects them.
