Issue 49

Dear Parents,
After school activities began this week and have been enjoyed by the children who attended them. There are still spaces in some clubs and you can enrol your child online.
The sailing course for students who are 14 years old and above starts on the 8th October. We have only one space left on the course and, if your child is interested, please let Kelly know (secondaryreception@tlccyprus.com). Recently we have held ‘Meet the Teacher’ afternoons for the primary school and these have been well attended. The feedback from parents about the start of the year has been positive and we are all pleased that the children have settled in well after a long time out of the classroom. If secondary parents would like to meet their child’s class teacher, please make an appointment with Kelly on secondary reception secondaryreception@tlccyprus.com.
Later in the term we will be holding parent consultation meetings to discuss academic progress and would strongly encourage you to attend these to enable us all to work as a team to help your child reach their potential.
Normally at this time of the year we would be looking to arrange the first school trips; important elements of the students’ education. We have been in contact with the ministry of education regarding the restrictions on trips and have sadly been advised that no trips can take place until the spring term and then only if the Covid-19 situation is under control.
Whilst talking about Covid-19 regulations, please can I remind you that all students in the Secondary School need to wear masks at all times inside the buildings unless there is a medical reason for not wearing one. We are getting increasing numbers of students arriving at school without masks and, if this becomes a regular occurrence we will have no option other than to send the child home.
We are determined to counter this setback with special days and events in school until trips can start again so look out for more details soon. This week in the Secondary School, students have been given the opportunity to stand for election as form captains and vice-captains. These are important roles within each class; the successful candidates will represent their class on the school council which gives the students a voice in the development of the school. The results will be announced next week.
Don’t forget that next Thursday, 1st October, is Cyprus Independence Day and, as it is a public holiday, school will be closed. School will be open on the Friday.
I hope that you all have an enjoyable weekend and look forward to seeing you all again on Monday.
Kind regards
David Lewis
Principal
