Issue 73

4.

Dear Parents,

This week’s newsletter is a day early as tomorrow is a public holiday – Cyprus Independence Day, and school is closed. Most of the children at the gate this morning knew and are looking forward to a long weekend.

Those parents visiting secondary at the moment will see the trees in the grounds doubling as art displays with the gourds painted by Key Stage Three students hanging from the branches. Some of the students were intrigued by the shape of the dried fruits and were keen to learn of their historic use as bottles.

After school clubs are now in full swing and for those who haven’t signed up, there are still spaces. Sindy, our primary and KS3 PE teacher, would like to encourage more students to join the sports activities after school. She’s hoping to arrange some fixtures against other schools soon and would like a full complement of students to choose from so all you budding footballers, netballers, hockey and tag rugby players, sign up soon to become the school’s sporting heroes on the pitch!

After a delay caused by Brexit and transport problems, we now have the full range of PE kit in stock in school. Please order any necessary items online and collect from school reception. Don’t forget too that we now have salad bowls and sandwiches for sale in our secondary school so, when the fridge is getting low, lunch can still be available on a first come first served basis.

After a year missed because of Covid, we have been invited back to join the Royal British Legion in their marking of the signing of the Armistice at the end of World War One at this year’s Remembrance Service. There’s a change of venue this year with the event kindly being hosted by Tala Amphitheatre. Our school choir will perform there and Mrs Outram is keen to hear from any past or new members who wish to represent the school on the day.

Walking around the schools and dropping into lessons, I have been impressed by the collaborative work being undertaken (socially distanced of course) in the lessons. Listening in to some of the groups, it’s clear that all students are keen to get their view across whilst respectful enough to listen to the ideas of others in the group. In psychology today, the students were engaged in lateral thinking problems and examples that challenged the teachers were quickly solved by our able critical thinkers.

As ever, our students never cease to impress.

Have a great long weekend and we’ll see you all on Monday

Kind regards,

David Lewis

Principal

After School Clubs

For parents who have not yet registered and would still like to do so, please CLICK HERE to view the range of exciting clubs for both Primary and Secondary students.

Please complete one form per child. Some groups will have limited numbers, so we will be offering the most popular clubs on a first come, first served basis.

The school has subscribed to the children’s news magazine The Week Junior and a digital subscription is now available to all TLC children.

The Week magazine is a UK based publication that summarises the week’s news and events from around the world and The Week Junior makes this information accessible for children aged 7 to 14.
To access the free digital version, download the The Week Junior app from Apple’s App Store or Android Google Play. Open the app and click on the settings icon (Three vertical dots) in the top right corner. Then click on Account then Existing Subscriptions and enter the code 001212024901.

You will be taken to the current issue page and can also view past issues. Each week, the new issue is automatically distributed late on a Friday or early Saturday morning and can be downloaded to your device. The magazine also contains puzzles and a weekly news quiz that will help you know how thoroughly your child has read the magazine.

We hope that you will encourage your child to read the magazine each week. All the children who took part in the trial of the magazine, loved it and now read it avidly each week. The information will help your child become more aware of what is happening in the world and how it affects them.
