Issue 96

Dear Parents,
I noticed that I regularly start my newsletters by noting it had been a busy week and this made me realise that actually every week is a very busy week at TLC Private School.
This week it was the turn of Ms Toni and Miss Valentina to get staff and students enthused for International Day. Given the situation in Europe, we were a little apprehensive but, in true TLC style, our students came together to mark the occasion and shared experiences and information about their home countries in a friendly, sensitive and respectful way. Across both schools, the students were fascinated to hear about such countries as South Africa, China and Israel amongst many others. I was at our primary school first thing and saw the fun start very early as the staff decorated the front of the building. The children were very excited to search for their country’s flag and try to recognise others.
Miss Miranda’s class went on their first school trip for some while, visiting The Place in Paphos to find out about the traditional crafts of Cyprus. A fun day was had by all as they watched the potter, the basket weaver and more, demonstrate their craft! Next week there are several more trips planned for our primary children.
It’s not long now until our next celebration as we mark the Platinum Jubilee of the British Queen on the 3rd of June. The day will focus on history with the students finding out what happened around the world in each of the seven decades of her reign. We’re also hoping to have a tea party that day too in the secondary school. Primary won’t miss out and they’re planning a fun afternoon of games and food as they raise money for their camping trip. More details later!
We also have ‘Party in the Park’ soon and it’ll be the first ‘in school’ and outdoor performance since Covid began – another new first and one to enjoy. All parents are welcome and there’s rumours of a Pimms tent for refreshment. Add to these our graduation days for primary and secondary, the camping trip, more school trips, outside speakers on well-being and more and you’ll see why every week at TLC is a busy one.
Kind regards,
David Lewis
Principal

OTHER NEWS

The school has subscribed to the children’s news magazine The Week Junior and a digital subscription is now available to all TLC children.
The Week magazine is a UK based publication that summarises the week’s news and events from around the world and The Week Junior makes this information accessible for children aged 7 to 14.
To access the free digital version, download the The Week Junior app from Apple’s App Store or Android Google Play. Open the app and click on the settings icon (Three vertical dots) in the top right corner. Then click on Account then Existing Subscriptions and enter the code 001212024901.
You will be taken to the current issue page and can also view past issues. Each week, the new issue is automatically distributed late on a Friday or early Saturday morning and can be downloaded to your device. The magazine also contains puzzles and a weekly news quiz that will help you know how thoroughly your child has read the magazine.

We hope that you will encourage your child to read the magazine each week. All the children who took part in the trial of the magazine, loved it and now read it avidly each week. The information will help your child become more aware of what is happening in the world and how it affects them.
