Letter from the Principal

Justin

Dear Parents,

I hope this newsletter finds you well. We have had an eventful week at our school, with exciting updates and achievements to share. Let’s dive right into the highlights:

“Party in the Park”:

Last night, our performing arts department put together a spectacular event, the “Party in the Park.” The talent on display was truly remarkable, with impressive performances and stunning artwork showcased throughout the evening. We were thoroughly impressed by the depth and quality of the performances, as well as the exceptional artwork exhibited. A big thank you to all the students and staff involved in making this event a resounding success!

Fundraising Success:

Our Year 7 students, led by the indefatigable Roy Feingold, have once again demonstrated their commitment to making a positive impact on our furry friends’ community. During the “Party in the Park” event, they continued their fundraising efforts for the Stray Haven Dog Shelter. I am thrilled to announce that they raised an incredible 515 Euros! This is a remarkable achievement, and I commend the Year 7 students for their dedication and generosity. Additionally, our Prom committee has also been hard at work raising funds for their anticipated evening, contributing to the success of our school events.

Celebrating Jessica Evans:

Let’s take a moment to celebrate the achievements of Jessica Evans, currently a Year 13 student. Jessica has decided to pursue a career in theatre production and has shown exceptional dedication throughout her journey. Alongside her hard work in A-Level Drama, she has actively sought practical experience in the performing arts field. Jessica has been instrumental in supporting Ms. Ally in running the Drama club, assisting with lessons in KS3, and even utilizing her creative skills to build props and scenery. Her most recent accomplishment involves working backstage to support the ‘Shakespeare at the Kourian’ production of ‘The Taming of the Shrew’, which is playing from the 22nd to the 24th of June. Jessica is managing props, a role which demands unwavering commitment and reliability, and we are immensely proud of Jessica for her determination, initiative, and achievements. She is truly an inspiration to her peers.

Upcoming Events:

In the weeks ahead, we have some important events and reminders to keep in mind. Exams are being prepared for, and we encourage all students to engage in focused studying and preparation. Additionally, the Year 5 camp is scheduled for next week, taking place on Thursday and Friday. This promises to be an exciting and educational experience for our young campers.

Lastly, the Friends of TLC will be hosting a coffee morning at the EKO gas station, close to our secondary school on Friday, the 9th of June. This is an excellent opportunity to come together, enjoy a cup of coffee, and connect with other parents. We encourage your participation in this event.

As we approach the weekend, I wish you and your family a lovely three-day break. Take this time to relax, recharge, and create wonderful memories together.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.

Kind regards,

Justin van Zyl

Principal

OTHER NEWS

An introduction to The Day

The Day is a rich and engaging online educational resource that turns news into lessons across five differentiated reading levels.

It provides schools with unlimited access to activities that bring big global issues into the classroom through daily news written in-house, polls, videos, images, graphics, posters, translations and links for external guided research.

We engage all learners and inspire comprehension through challenging, rich texts, experiential learning, project work and the acquisition of core knowledge about the real world.

By making connections between current affairs and the curriculum, we encourage students to become more actively engaged in their studies and more inquisitive, enabling them to develop cultural capital and the skills they need to be successful in the modern world and ethical, informed citizens.

We believe that investigating what is true and exposing misinformation enables people to make good choices and fulfil their potential.

We work towards a world where young people everywhere learn how to become ambitious, capable learners, ask good questions, debate the issues, listen to others and develop a powerful voice in shaping a better future.
