Issue 97

4.

Dear Parents,

After a few weeks of perfect weather we’re now into the hot and humid Cyprus summer – not a problem if you’re lazing by a pool or on the beach but a bit of a struggle for our students (and teacher!) when doing PE and for our Year 11, 12 and 13 students revising for, then taking their exams.

Soon it will be the turn of our KS3 students to take their end of year assessments with tests only in maths, English and science this summer. These assessments are planned for the 14th, 16th and 17th of June and a timetable will be sent out separately for the assessments. I must remind you that students must obtain more than 50% in each assessment to be able to progress to the next academic year therefore it is vital that you encourage and support your child in their revision.

Today, Years 3 and 5 went on a very long school trip to the Geopark in Troodos. You could tell they hadn’t been on a trip in some while as they were getting excited about the coach before they even got on it. Earlier in the week Kindergarten and Reception visited Pikni Forest for a host of educational activities including my favourite – hugging a tree whilst blindfold then guessing which tree it was once the blindfold was off. Reception+ and Year 1 visited the Emba Neolithic Settlements yesterday to find out what it was like living in Cyprus thousands of years ago and can you believe there were even tourists in Cyprus then!

We’ve been asked to promote the annual Pegeia Municipality Children’s Festival 2022 which takes place on Sunday 05 June from 5:30pm once the day has cooled off. There are lots of fun events at the festival which is free to attend whilst there’s also free food and drinks available for children. This has been a very popular occasion prior to the pandemic and it would be great to support in as it returns to the local community calendar.

This coming Thursday, 02 June, the Year 6s and their parents will be hosting a special Queen’s Jubilee fundraiser at the TLC Primary School. There will be a fantastic Tombola Stall, with an incredible array of prizes to be won, starting at 12:00. Tickets for the Tombola start from a euro each with a special of 5 tickets for 3 euros. There will also be a wonderful raffle with the opportunity to win some fabulous prizes! Tickets for the raffle are again priced at a euro per ticket.

Lastly, for parents and students to enjoy, there will be a cake sale starting at 14:00. A delicious assortment of goodies ranging from cakes, popcorn, sweets, donuts, biscuits and so much more will be on offer… so come and browse the stall to see what your taste buds can be treated to! Please remember to send money with your children on the day so they can participate in the fun and support our wonderful Year 6 class with this initiative.

Changes are afoot in our primary school and since we returned after Easter, Wendy Heath, who currently teaches Year 5T, has been shadowing Miss Miranda who, sadly, will be leaving us at the end of the school year. Many of you already know Wendy and she will take over the role of Head of Primary from September. We are very grateful to Miranda for the way she has led the Primary School through some difficult times caused by the pandemic and we wish her well in her new role in Limassol. Wendy is looking forward to taking over the reins and is already working on the plans for another exciting year in Primary, beginning in September

There is a change in our Early Years department from September too with Ms Toni leaving us and being replaced by a former TLC teacher that many of you will know well – Miss Despina. Toni has been Head of Early Years since joining us and we are grateful for the sterling work she has done in managing a very important part of the school; preparing the children for their lifelong learning.

Have a great weekend, stay cool, and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday

Kind regards,

David Lewis

Principal

OTHER NEWS

The school has subscribed to the children’s news magazine The Week Junior and a digital subscription is now available to all TLC children.

The Week magazine is a UK based publication that summarises the week’s news and events from around the world and The Week Junior makes this information accessible for children aged 7 to 14.
To access the free digital version, download the The Week Junior app from Apple’s App Store or Android Google Play. Open the app and click on the settings icon (Three vertical dots) in the top right corner. Then click on Account then Existing Subscriptions and enter the code 001212024901.

You will be taken to the current issue page and can also view past issues. Each week, the new issue is automatically distributed late on a Friday or early Saturday morning and can be downloaded to your device. The magazine also contains puzzles and a weekly news quiz that will help you know how thoroughly your child has read the magazine.

We hope that you will encourage your child to read the magazine each week. All the children who took part in the trial of the magazine, loved it and now read it avidly each week. The information will help your child become more aware of what is happening in the world and how it affects them.
