News From Kindergarten and Reception
Our Kindergarten and Reception Department is getting ready for the start of the new school year. When our youngest pupils arrive back in September they’ll be thrilled with the enlarged and improved outdoor play areas.
With plenty of activities available in a new shaded area. The opportunities for learning skills like cooperation and sharing have increased greatly.
Those children who enjoy role play need not worry though. The castle, the shop, the space ship or whatever is in the imagination that day will still be part of the fun learning.
Our two experienced and highly qualified early years teachers are well-loved by the young pupils. Those pupils moving up into Year 1 have already said they’ll miss Miss Emma and Miss Despina.
Life in Kindergarten and Reception with their teachers is always active, whether it’s learning our letter sounds through the Jolly Phonics scheme or getting to grips with numbers by counting bears. There’s also playing with friends or developing our art skills too. Parents always comment on the rapid development of the skills which form part of the Early Learning Goals – the English system’s pre-school standards.
Mr Lewis, our Principal, always loves visiting Kindergarten and Reception to see the exciting activities they do. He receives a very friendly welcome from all of the children, even if he is very tall and they think he’s a giant!
In Kindergarten and Reception, the children receive PE lessons from our sports specialist, whether it’s learning to swim or how to kick, throw and catch. They also love their music lessons which involve plenty of active dance moves as well as singing.
School life is so much fun in Kindergarten and Reception that Mr Lewis wishes he was 3 or 4 years old again. Unfortunately for him, the children say that must have been a very long time ago. They also wonder if he can remember back that far!
